Special Scenarios

There are some unique situations in medicine that require advanced communication skills.  Certainly, one’s ability to communicate improves over time and experience.  As a learner, you may be asked to communicate in some of these special situations with  little preparation and experience.   We will try to highlight some skills that will be helpful to you.  Developing a strategy to tackle some of the more challenging patient encounters is well worth the effort it takes.  Patient satisfaction with a physician encounter is often related to the physician’s ability to communicate effectively.
