Surgery is a form of local treatment for cancer.

 

The surgeon’s role may vary during course of patient’s cancer. Surgeons are involved in the care of cancer patients from diagnosis to palliation. Surgeons also play a role in fostering screening programmes.

 

General Surgical Oncology is a sub-specialty of general surgery and would be a good career for someone with technical skills and academic interest as well a a desire to work in oncology.
