Oncology Pharmacists

 

The pharmacist plays an important role in the oncology team by providing drug information to patients, physicians and nurses.  Their duties include but are not limited to:

  • Counselling patients regarding the treatment they are receiving

  • Monitoring and managing side effects of drugs, adverse reactions and drug interactions

  • Obtaining accurate medication histories

  • Reviewing chemotherapy orders for accuracy and providing recommendations for dosing adjustments

  • Organizing and facilitating the attainment of drugs on discharge

  • Provision of safe and accurate chemotherapy drugs

  • Development of guidelines and standardized practices
