Case 3

During a lecture, a prof attempts to lighten up his presentation by making jokes on gays. Some individuals in the room laugh while others keep quiet. Carol, a student, approaches you and says: “They think they are funny and maybe they think that their words are meaningless and not offensive; it makes me uncomfortable. I want to say something but I can’t. One never knows how people will react, and it’s not worth it.”
