Objectives

This module consists of three core cases, and should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. 

In this time, you are expected to do the following:  

1. Appreciate the variety of information accessed by women facing an unintended pregnancy.  

2. Understand your professional obligation when counselling patients seeking abortion services.  

3. Understand the essentials of a sexual history,  

4. Know and be able to use at least one abuse screening tool  

5. Know the main risks and benefits of therapeutic abortion  

6. Know the indications for emergency contraceptive use.  

7. Appreciate the complex psychosocial issues facing patients with unintended pregnancy, and recognize the need for unbiased, supportive counselling by health professionals.
